'What on earth is a glamping gem?' I hear you ask. Well, it is simply a little hidden gem I have found of the glamping variety and frankly, this bad boy is going to write itself because one thing I have learned over the summer is that there are some really quirky glamp sites around Northern Ireland. A few weeks ago I wrote about glamping pods. This blog is devoted to quirky glamping. While I could definitely write for hours on this, I'm going to stick to my usual top five.
Tepee Valley, Armagh
Domes, yurts, the Shepherd's Hut and my personal favourite... the Gypsy Caravan. If you are looking for a quirky glamp site then look no further! The Gypsy Caravan is my favourite- from £95 per night and sleeps 2 adults and 2 children (in 2 double bunks) and handcrafted kitchen. The Shepherd's Hut sleeps 2 adults and 1 child from £75 per night. Cosy and charming with an outdoor seating area and firebowl. Open all year round.
Willowtree Glamping, Mournes
I love this beautiful part of Northern Ireland so the location already gets my vote. Perfect for exploring the Mournes. This glamp site is particularly special as it is for all the romantics out there. Adults only. Peace, quiet and each accommodation is available with its own private hot tub (surcharge applies). Willowtree also have a Shepherd's Hut and a selection of bell tents so you and your loved one can snuggle up under the stars or lock eyes over the camp fire.
Escape Glamping, Castlewellan
This glampsite offers bell tents for up to 2 adults and 2 children and just right for family glamping. 5 minutes from Castlewellan Forest Park (which is great for walking trails and is home to the Life Adventure Centre for outdoor activities) and 5 minutes to the town centre for shops and restaurants. Escape is ideal for families.
The site itself is fenced off - perfect for parental peace of mind. Each tent is a good distance from the other for privacy with its own BBQ. Bedding, plates and cutlery is all provided. My favourite thing is the cute little stove in each tent to keep you cosy and the USB chargers in the kitchen area. AND it is doggy friendly. Rates start from £65 per night based on 2 sharing with an additional £5 per night for each child.
Larchfield Estate, Lisburn
Larchfield Estate have a luxury glamping truck called Myrtle and when I found out about this I was overjoyed. It looks so quirky and amazing!! This 1952 army truck has been adapted to include sun deck, wood burning stove, underbed heating, sauna and fire pit. Sleeps 2 adults sharing. Available to book March- October.
Finn Lough Luxury Hideaway, Enniskillen
Book a bubble dome under the stars. Transparent bubble in the Finn Lough private forest. Each luxurious dome sleeps 2 adults with four poster bed, ensuite bathroom, roll top bath overlooking the forest, coffee machine and breakfast included. This is an overnight experience like no other. Spa facilities available (must be booked in advance).
As always, if you click on the names, a link will take you to the accommodation's website.
